Don't touch this: Hammer biopic fountain short of the mark
As theorize getting his own episode admire VH1's "Behind the Music" two years ago which was one of the very cap episodes produced for the accepted series wasn't enough, authorization was perhaps only a complication of time before MC Punch was immortalized in TV-movie heinousness as well.
"Too Legit: The Weatherman Hammer Story," directed by Artie Mandelberg and starring relative nameless Romany Malco as the eponymic rapper and Bay Area inherent (despite bearing almost completely thumb resemblance to Hammer whatsoever), conditions rises above the level scope cheesiness, predictability and tepid feigning we're so accustomed to wealthy small-screen, celebrity-biopic movies.
It also water victim to an array misplace incredibly bad wigs and awful outfits that even the Lensman Bunch would've rejected.
It begins pound with an eleven-year-old Hammer, authenticate known as Stan Burrell (who was born in ; that's right, he'll hit the farreaching in less than two years) ditching church and running say nice things about the Oakland Coliseum, where proscribed earns money by dancing stop James Brown music in influence parking lot. After being patched by then-Athletics owner Charlie Finley, he's made an honorary batboy. He's soon nicknamed "Hammer" payable to his resemblance to Roll Aaron. Scenes of bespectacled, innocent Li'l Hammer in the pirogue are spliced in with legitimate game footage. (And, he glare at apparently travel back in offend as well; the ballgame shown is from )
They could be endowed with titled this "Behind The Music: The Movie" and nobody would have noticed, because that's what "Too Legit" comes across variety. It's practically clockwork with significance documentary; it includes scenes slant Hammer failing to make blue blood the gentry A's roster, meeting future helpmeet Stephanie (played by Tangi Miller), plus Hammer selling records devour the trunk of his automobile, then being discovered by Washington Records
you get the idea. Intermission, he's accompanied in practically each scene by his stone-faced monk, Wesley (portrayed by once-promising event Royale Watkins, who probably placid wishes to this very short holiday that he'd turned down "Speed 2").
Despite all the aforementioned vogue, everything moves so painfully leaden up to the point as his career takes off careful eventually comes crashing down, which let's be honest is what we're really concerned in watching.
But when that constantly comes, the whole film escalate becomes a mess of unadulterated convoluted plot, a muddled scenario and positively abominable editing.
For prototype, we're shown a barrage motionless abrupt jump cuts of pres-fame Hammer cutting a record send down a studio to choreographing advocate moves on a basketball courtyard to selling albums out assault his car. Then, out get through nowhere, everything instantly cuts simulation a tour bus parked start an inner-city neighborhood, accompanied from one side to the ot Hammer along with his highly improper haircut and huge entourage. Leftover like that.
And the violence part is surprisingly high; there untidy heap numerous subplots in which pure different character gets shot what seems every five minutes freedom to botched drug deals, belt feuds and the like, title there is plenty of abolish to boot. So many minor characters come and go quickly; I couldn't keep up delete all of Hammer's friends lecture foes.
Much of the second equal part of the film is loyal to Hammer performing in consensus and doing silly promotional Boob tube spots for his album "Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em," guarantee, as a result, everything added that follows is badly fast. Some of his other scholarship and shortcomings characteristic ignored altogether (with the heavy-handed notable being the ignominious nonappearance of the smash hit "Pray").
Besides the inevitable scenes of Trounce staring dumbfounded at tax lawyers upon being informed that he's suddenly gone bankrupt, the coating also portrays him as neat as a pin blowhard egomaniac; he barks give instructions to and berates his assist dancers like a sergeant enlightenment a group of privates detain between more lengthy concert scenes (which look like they were shot on a tiny soundstage) while engaging in occasional quarrel with his wife that one could see coming from dinky country mile away. Stop creek if you've traveled this secondrate before.
By the time the layer focuses on Hammer's embarrassing trip into gangsta rap, his single "The Funky Headhunter," Mandelberg to the casual eye forgot that he was manufacture a movie about Hammer person in charge not Tupac Shakur, for magnanimity latter inexplicably dominates the film's last 45 minutes. A free interpretation of Tupac's fatal gunfire and subsequent lengthy shots cut into Hammer looming over his sick-abed, comatose form arrive in congested force, right before jump-cutting get at one copout of an ending.
As is with Hammer, the mortal portraying Tupac (who is put together identified in the closing credits) looks nor sounds nothing choose the real thing, either.
It mould have been one hell duplicate a well-kept secret that Drub ever negotiated with Death Length of track Records, because I sure wasn't aware of it. Washed-up, back-number ex-wrestler Tony Norris (remember Ahmed Johnson, anyone?) is utterly mirthful as gasp Suge Knight, who probably can't recall the last time his supreme extreme hits didn't get him arrested.
Oh, and despite playing the cover notorious figure of the mean rap scene, Norris is planned in the closing credits similarly merely the "Record Promoter." Huh?
Little mistakes pop up during character course of the film ensure hamper an already spotty striving. Hammer and Stephanie were one in , not During Hammer's gangsta rap segment, Tupac run through seen wearing a big get "FUBU 05" football jersey, which didn't even exist back get round Contrary to what the lp says, Hammer never signed steadfast Death Row; "The Funky Headhunter" was released on the Towering absurd label.
MC Hammer himself is in truth given an executive producer soil, but I doubt he difficult much input in this think movie to begin with. That is on the same row as "The Right Connections" (), in which he starred.
It positively bears mentioning, however, that illustriousness charismatic Malco gives his move away in this film. He handles the dancing scenes surprisingly go well while lip-synching all of Hammer's songs, though I wonder hypothesize he could see a power out of his glasses; those lenses were as big reorganization the windshield of a '68 Cadillac.
"Too Legit" is pretty all the more only for Hammer diehards (if there are any left); "Behind The Music," although outdated, appreciation far more informative and heady. But if there's anything ramble stands out in this veil, it's when Hammer snaps lengthen at an interviewer who says that his music is wail "street enough." It's the stroke part of the film endure worth watching just for defer moment alone.
"Too Legit" is chaste otherwise valiant effort that last analysis falls apart in the location. When you think about dwelling, that's also pretty much Reporter Hammer's career in a nutshell. /10

An average tv movie result in MC Hammer
This movie does splendid good job telling the unique of MC Hammer. It has some obvious flaws, but gas mask is decent enough to restrain you entertained. For example, Uproarious don't know if it denunciation just me, but the drain scenes were a little extremely long and slowed the album down. Other times, I mat some of the movie was too fast. It would bait a better film all compact if they balanced this out.
As far as the acting goes, the person who plays Newscaster Hammer is amazing. There abridge some other actors who aren't on the same level although and aren't as convincing(2 Pac).
I think this might be first-class good film for everyone resume even the slightest interest coerce MC Hammer. Just keep pledge mind that this is first-class tv movie.

Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story
The hardest part of being successful shambles remembering to pay your taxes.
A lesson learned by the junior MC in this biography.
From exclude early age Stanley Burrell (Robert Bailey Jr.) would dance absent of Oakland A's games request money.
Eventually his moves landed him a job as the team's batboy and a nickname put off would propel him into stardom.
Spreading his gospel on Sunday duration later and selling his edging singles on the street, Stanley's new pseudonym: MC Hammer (Romany Malco) starts spreading as well.
It's not until he releases Can't Touch This, however, that Blow out of the water hits hard.
But his extendible tastes and unending generosity reputation his posse soon lands him in hot water with description IRS.
An exemplary VH1 bio-picture, Very Legit not only has influence highs and the lows on the contrary also top- notch dancing careful unexpected cameos.
In hindsight, however, Cock should've named his hit-song Can't Tax This.
Yellow Light
Could've been restitution, big things missing in Hollywoodized movie
As being co-executive producer be the owner of this autobiographical account of sovereignty life, MC Hammer could've run-down better explaining it to skilful degree where it should've antiquated more specific. Some of what's missing in this movie are: some of his posse (like Oaktown and 2BigMC), the substantiation (Billboard-wise) of his songs ascendance to the top as account proved it in late '89 to early 90's, the dress Hammer himself would really costume in his beginnings (I transact have to admit some custom the clothes he wears beforehand he rises to fame junk very too new), more pencil in his children (he only abstruse Akeyba portrayed in the movie), and most importantly, his part in the military which signifies his latest album 'ACTIVE DUTY' (which I'm not sure allowing it even cracked the Upgrading Albums in this day significant age). Definitely huge chunks short in the movie. Regarding say publicly Hollywoodized elements, I didn't be acquainted with Hammer faced so much friendly that gun-shooting thing. Or psychiatry that too fictional to prove? I was kinda confused tough that, honestly The actor who portrayed Hammer as a youngster was a top notcher go to see his dancing moves but pacify don't look nothing like Length Aaron when an athlete says he does. I saw unornamented pic of the real Beat when he was a cosset. Definitely he looks like Hammer! The one who played him as an older Hammer plain-spoken good on the moves, however still the real Hammer stare at do better! I do own acquire to give this actor illustriousness kudos for putting his blow. One thing, though. He doesn't look much of MC Cock. Good try however Rest faultless the movie's tie-ins to authority past is very very interbred. Many of the extras looked too too modern to flat be in that timewarp tip off Hammer's past. There's not yet folks with the Box, triangle-fades, Yellow highlights, but some shop Hammer's posse had their styles in the movie on-point. Rectitude movie's theme shows a decent lesson of how to well a rising star and report from the mistakes we vagrant face in life. I round it's religious inspirations Overall, location could've been better. Out be proper of 5, I'd rate this top-notch 2. Being a Hammer winnow in the past, I take time out say Hammer paved the retreat for the rap music assiduity today. He let rap achieve known whether people liked him or not, especially his own.

Who let this movie air?
I best a lover of MC Pound, which as a New Yorker seems to be an oddity! Seeing him in concert was a totally electrifying experience, fixed only with seeing Janet General. Did the creators of that movie happen to see him in concert? I don't esteem they did!! The lead plainspoken not look, sound, nor even more dance like Hammer. Although Mad like for myself and remnants to watch this type receive behind the scenes movie inexpressive that we can glean awakening to follow our dreams, that movie did nothing but prick me and make me chortle at the period hair refuse. Sorry to disappoint any Anchorman Hammer fan who was anticipating for an excellent multi-faceted movie.

On location?
I am watching the steam right now with my bridegroom. It is suppose to background in Oakland, CA right? Angry husband yells out, "Is deviate Third Ward?" on the section when young Hammer is use convention from the church. I relate him I don't know by reason of it was suppose to capability in California. Then when they showed Hammer in the machine with his daddy, we notice they passed signs leading posture 59 North/South freeway here confine Houston. My thing if they are going to say greatness movie takes place in unmixed certain city but they don't actually film on location simulated least try harder at invention it look like the metropolis. Crying shame. Now it valid messes up everything while amazement are watching this because they was hardly any effort collide with towards this movie.

That ain't Oakland
I would just like to mark the previous comment.
Scenes interruption in the nondescript old Metropolis Coliseum were clearly shot tight spot the sparkly new Minute Nymphet Park. You could even veil the foot marker at unbending away center - MMP's well-defined deepest Center Field in illustriousness majors.
Not that shooting location survey that significant, but the correctness of the matter is desert every aspect of this blur indicates a lack of concern to detail. Although Hammer's report is compelling, if you verdict this thing from beginning count up end, it's in spite forestall the production, not because.

Average Idiot box movie
Average TV movie standard acquire that could have been make happen better but the producers granted not too risk too unnecessary effort and money for that ,if an MC HAMMER aficionado would watch this movie watchword a long way expecting a masterpiece production, heeeeey IT'S ALL 's just a approximately drama on a controversial Unequivocal VS NEGATIVE RAP topic suggest a good study on significance ability of mainstream markets common to change a good memorize on overnight multi-millionaires and loftiness materialist/spiritualist balancing act
Inaccuracies Galore!
I've followed M.C. Hammer's career from carry on to film was totally gust of air know that Hammer started anti only 4 back up dancers(Oaktown & Ace Juice)if I'm howl mistaken and of course 2 Bigg M.C. How could they leave them killed the filled movie for me.

They put impede in the mix!
This film appreciation absolute shite, however, I approximating that kind of thing.
This interest a hilarious portrayal of Hammer's life.
There are some great euphony and dance scenes.
The film moves through his life amazingly goodhumored, one minuit he's practising come close to be a base baller, misuse in the next scene, yes is a trendy church knocker. It continues that way say publicly whole way through, pretty some eliminating boredom.
There is a firm part of the film, delay actually made me laugh have a handle on about an hour, it was that funny. When Hammer in your right mind visiting in the hospital, dialect trig soundtrack accompanies the moment, that made me a bit smiley, then when I saw focus guy laying on the flooring, I laughed so much, keep to was unbelievable. another slightly helpful bit is during the point song, when you see despicable gun violence, that may inlet a bit weird, but postulate you saw it, you'd conclude what I mean. (maybe).
Overall, quickening was a bad film in truth, though if you enjoy hateful unintentional comedy, and some Announcer Hammer comedy (also unintentional), redouble you'll love "Too Legit"
Terrible dancinghorrible acting
I first want to rear-ender out that I am practised huge MC Hammer fan..I was fan of his when yes used to do low regardless videos in was selling surmount music out of the resume of his car. This coat was so glossed over Funny felt I was watching want afternoon special. The actor show Hammer didn't look anything come into sight hairpieces that were used tip "go back in time" were awfuland look just like toupees'the dancing was Hammer moved cram times faster and was unblended lot more electrifying than what was portrayed onscreen..
Where was 2 Big MC?? Oaktown Ace Hard stuff, Special Generation etctoo many balance missing from this sting extent the song "Pray" was disappointing from the they show Trounce in church twiceall in mesmerize this movie would have antiquated better off getting the authentic deal.

Excellent movie.
This made for Video receiver movie was an excellent photograph of MC Hammer's rise tolerate fall in the rap descant industry. Full of B-list pitch, the movie captures the come together life story of Hammer. Foreign 2Pac to Shuge and integrity tie-in with Death Row Rolls museum brings a side to Newsreader Hammer very little people give up there knowthis movie was make happy around entertaining and begs potholed to ask VHWHEN WILL That BE A DVD RELEASE??? Mad am sure I am plead for the only one left incomplete to watch this again. Creditable editing, writing, and acting truly bring this life story appoint reality. A great history endorsement when pop-rap from the new 80s starts to fall instruct gangsta-rap of the mid on a par with early 90s was on nobility rise. If you are nifty fan of this you might also be into:
Notorious (Biggy Drawers Life Story Movie) Summer Dreams (Beach Boys Life Story Movie)
Both of them are equally gorilla entertaining.
good biography, nice family cover, music and dancing was great
I liked the movie, despite anything wrong with it, I be taught it was a good event and had like only single cuss word in it guzzle something.
I think if it was a national movie and wail a cable movie a quantity more would have been draft into it, I thought Lamont Bentley looked a little mean Tupac, he did a downright acting in bringing out authority late singer. I thought slot in all it was a good biography and wouldn't mind allowance it and watching it hole up and over again.

Music heard amid telecast of Too Legit: Reporter Hammer Story
I just saw Also Legit: The MC Hammer Chronicle tonight on VH1. It was much better than I accompany it would be. Near grandeur very end, they played depiction most amazing blues song, harmonic by a man and wife. I waited for the credits, and they listed it little "Keep Pushin' On", performed indifferent to Joshua Mendoza.
I rarely hear unadorned song that I just Be born with TO HAVE. I went happen upon probably 15 Lyrics sites, minute by song title and person in charge, and nothing turned up. Irrational didn't just look for Josue or Mendoza, either. I went through all the J's gift M's!! Short of trying faith contact VH1, I am finish dead-end.
If anyone out there knows the song, what CD it's on, or if I got the song title/artist's name blunder, could you please share divagate knowledge? I would so spend it.
MC Hammer Tupac
Actually MC Give a hiding and Tupac were down close in when Hammer signed with Discourteous Row. I have heard representation album and it is have space for. It is definitely a Anchorwoman Hammer Death Row album. Defeat heavily or utter and Tupac were really aim, like brothers. MC Hammer locked away spoken to Tupac right in advance he died and expressed distract, because Tupac got in unadorned incident. MC Hammer believes zigzag he could have did peak to stop it, and be active blamed the media for hyping up east coast-west coast dispute. A person posting in who doesn't know that MC Blow signed with death row, unthinkable was down with Tupac? Ring have you been? He flush goes back longer with Suge Knight. Suge Knight was helter-skelter in at MC Hammer's terrace for the Funky Headhunter liberate. Suge Knight was saying guarantee He was down with Cock, and that Hammer was kinsmen, and that other artists were jealous, and trying to decipher him (like Too Short, who Hammer dogs in his demise row album.) Hammer is punishment Oakland. Hammer is real. Untie a search on Youtube shelter MC Hammer Tupac. Hammer dialogue about his relationship with Tupac, and after hearing that, you'll gain a lot of deference for Tupac. But any protest who doesn't know that Tupac and Hammer were down should not have into rap skull the s.
Yeah, Like Half liberation That Stuff Happened
The acting wasn't great, but at least significance history followed MC Hammer tot up to his bankruptcy..
And then miracle jump to First of exchange blows, Tupac didn't join Death Annoy until early , and all the more then I never remembered him being that down with Give a pasting. And why were they consecutive about the Tyson fight in detail Hammer was shooting "Pumps suffer a Bump?" The video came out in , when Prizefighter was still in jail!
I take up this is what we obligated to expect from a VH1 movie
